Edit Plus
Instructions
Edit Plus is a program that will allow you to modify your website pages and write new text or load images that will appear on the page. Each page is set up in a template, and the sections are seen as form boxes where you can type your information. It will appear on the Internet pre-formated. Each page is customized to your website, so if you notice small "glitches", be sure to let me know so I can fix them.
There are many formats, and when you start, become familiar with the way it appears on your page. Experiment, save the page, take a look, experiment again -- and finally save it as you wish.
IMPORTANT: Because you are making the changes, I will not have a backup file of your new page. Save each page on your computer by going to it on the Internet and using the "Save AS" feature on your browser, save a copy to your computer. Contact me for more information concerning this important step if need assistance.
If you "loose a page" or need to go back to an earlier version, you will need to reload it. Simply go to your saved copy on your computer, open it in your browser, right click the page to "view source", copy ALL of the HTML code and then open the page in you EDIT PLUS. Using the advanced option, open the page and "paste" the code onto the page. Save, and it should be resurrected.
General Directions
The Edit Plus pages are set up in a template so that you can add items, images, and text in
one of several formats. The Monthly Calendar, for example, will have a space for 12
months and sub-categories under each. General pages may be set up so you
can do either a center format or left aligned format. You can mix these
formats or skip all the center and just do left, or all center. You may
have a very specialized layout, specifically designed for your needs. Experiment
to lear the layout.
For the image code, you will usually use <img src "../images/filename.jpg"> or if inside a hyperlink tag: <a href.......</a>. If you image is loaded correctly, it will appear on the page where this code is located. vbv More information on Images...
After you have filled in the Edit Plus form, just click the "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the page. Most of your editing can be done in the "standard mode", however, the advanced HTML codes are available if you need them. The advanced section should be use sparingly. Always make a backup before you do any changes. If you see some codes already in the format, be very careful if you change them.
NOTE: When you return to the page you have edited, be sure to refresh so you can see the latest changes.
Useful HTML Code and Tips
The following are useful HTML codes that will enhance your final web page. Please
note that in HTML, you will usually need the beginning code and the ending code or it may
not work properly. The beginning code is enclosed like this: <P>,and the
end code has a slash like this: </P>.
<LI> List with bullets or numbers. If you want to add items to an existing list every line must start with this code. This is one of the few codes that does not need an ending code.
<B>bold</B> Or sometimes you may see <strong>
</strong>
<i>italic</i>
<U>underline</U>
<big>increase font size by one size</big>
One very handy bit of code will insert a horizontal line. Just enter <hr>
<font>change font or color </font> For example, by adding the following: <font color="red">Temporarily SOLD OUT</font> You will add a Red Sold message to your page. Modify the wording as you wish.
If you are adding a hyperlink to an image so that it can be enlarged, do so in
the following format:
<a href="../images/imagename-enlarged.jpg"><img
src="../images/imagename_small.jpg" width="210"
height="150"></a>
The hyperlink is enclosed within the <a > ....</a> tags. The href="..... " refers to the actual hyperlink or enlarged image. The image that you see on the page is enclosed within the <img src="......"> tag. Be sure you have loaded BOTH images or this will not work.
Uploading Images
Go to the Upload Image page (the link will be on your Edit Plus Manager) and browse to where the image is located
on your
computer. Double click the image file and the file name should appear
in the small window. Just click "Upload" and it will be placed in your
"image" file.
NOTE: Be careful about the size of your image files. They should be saved at less than 100 DPI, and the file size of the enlarged image should be less than 75KB. Small images should be only a few KB. To optimize images, use your image program or go to the IMAGE INFORMATION page for free online optimization programs.
That's it.
You now know the basic of Edit Plus and your website. Have fun, and
don't be afraid to experiment. Just keep backup copies your webpage... That way you can go backwards if necessary and
reload. Most importantly, never give up! It may take several attempts
before you get it right, but it will be well worth it in the long run.
